Food stroage with Mylar bags & O absorbers
We use mylar bags and O absorbers to store all our dry beans, rice and other grains.
We are very satisfied with this method of long term storage. At the Waltons feed website there is a step by step description for the how to. We use 2 different size bags...20"x30" & 10"x15" The 20x30s are placed in a clean 5 gal. bucket and filled with 25lbs.of grain. The smaller bags hold approx. 6-7 lbs of beans, lentils etc. Tricks we've learned Dispense all of your accumulated food into bags/buckets or the free standing small bags. BEFORE YOU OPEN THE O ABSORBER PACKAGE Have a clean mason jar with lid and ring ready to accept the remaining absorbers IMMEDIATELY after using what you need. After sealing the bags we keep an eye on them for a couple of hours making sure the seal is tight and the bags are collaspseing. When using the iron method dont overdo the heat or pressure otherwise you may unseal or melt the mylar If the seal isn't tight re-iron futher to the top of the bag The small bags of food we place in 18 gal totes, be careful not to puncture bags. When done correctly the bags will collapse and compress into a tight brick. Sound complicated??? no, not really Good luck |

Space Bags for clothing works pretty good, been using the ones that I have for the past four years and they are still sealed and with no air in them after sucking the air out with the vacuum cleaner, large double trash bags also works pretty good.
First post of the day......good morning to one and all. |

Thanks, Brewer.
Does Waltons have those 10x15 bags? I didn't see them on their site: http://waltonfeed.com/sitemap.html |
Re: Food stroage with Mylar bags & O absorbers
The smaller bags we purchased from Survival Unlimited .com . this company is in La. Check their website and then call for supply info. They're OK, but a little slow due to hurricane crap last year.
The large bags and O absorbers can be purchased @ shopsimplerliving.com you'll have to email them or call ,but their prices are fair and the service is great.....30 bucks S&H for 150 O absorbers...that equates to many lbs. of dry foodstuff. If you can eliminate the O and store your preps in a cool dry space you will have quality, nutritous food for years. Good luck |
